We are excited to finally share that we are expecting baby #3 in April!
How far along are you?
We are 21+ weeks! We have known for quite some time but kept it a secret until we had our 20 week ultrasound.
How did you find out?
I got home from the gym and was disappointed with my work out. I told Brian that I was feeling exhausted all the time and just couldn't push myself. He laughed and said, "you're pregnant." I rolled my eyes and explained my cycle. I confidently told him the timing did not add up. I said, "if I'm pregnant then I ovulated at least a week early." He insisted on going to the store right that moment for a pregnancy test and I fought it. I was so sure that I wasn't pregnant that it seemed like a huge waste of money and time! My period wasn't even due until the next day so it seemed premature to take a test. Nevertheless, he insisted and the last thing I said when he left was, "you're going to be disappointed."
He got home and I went straight into the guest bathroom to take the test. I left the stick on the bathroom counter without even waiting the 3 minutes for results. Brian went to check the results after a few minutes and came out with a grin. He said "you are pregnant." Knowing Brian, he would say that either way but the grin was genuine. I was totally shocked. He showed me the test results and I was so surprised that I took the other two tests. Both were positive. I'm pretty sure I said, "no way" and "I cannot believe I'm ACTUALLY pregnant" 1,000,000 times that night.
When did you share the news with Henry and Matilda? How did they react?
Henry's 6th birthday party was right after our 12 week doctor appointment. We didn't want to tell them before we had an ultrasound so we waited until we were in the second trimester. We got two books for the kids. "I'm a big brother" and "I'm a big sister." I wrapped them up with the ultrasound photo and let them open the books at his party in front of our immediate family. Their reactions were funny! The books were the last gift so they didn't care AT ALL. They were books and he had just opened fun new toys. He was eager to build his Lego sets. They didn't want to take the time to read the books, not even the titles.
After everyone left I asked Henry if he knew what we got him for his birthday. He said, "a book?" I asked if he knew what the book was about and he had no idea. I read the title and his eyes grew big, "WAIT. YOU'RE HAVING A BABY?!" then he leaped across the floor to give me a giant hug. He was already making plans and telling us how he wants to take care of the baby.
When we tucked Matilda into bed that night, we explained to her that she is going to be a big sister. She is 3 years old and didn't quite understand that she has to wait a little longer before we actually have the baby. She is excited to feed the baby a bottle and wants to dress it up in cute outfits.
We decided not to find out the sex of the baby! It will be a fun surprise either way because waiting is SO suspenseful! Henry and Matilda think it's a boy. Brian and I think it's a girl. Feel free to comment with your guess after reading our answers to these old wives tales!
- Baby's heart beat: <140 (boy)
- Chinese gender calendar: April= Girl
- Carrying baby: low (boy)
- Morning sickness: yes (girl)
- My skin is: dry (boy)
- Feeling: moody, irritable (girl)
Do you have a name picked out?
We do have a first name picked out if it's a girl! There are a couple middle names we are considering but won't decide for sure until it's here. We have a handful of names that we like for a boy, but nothing official. I'm hoping we can narrow it down to one or two boy names before they baby is born. We have been calling the baby Sprout for the last few months as a cute bump name. It seemed like the perfect nickname for a spring baby!
We are so thrilled and cannot wait to share more. Photos of the bump coming soon! :)
