We don't have a huge entryway and unfortunately our entryway wall is covered with eyesores. When it came time to decorate, I knew I wanted something inviting and cozy but also something that could hide the ugly (but essential) fixtures on the wall. The first thing that came to mind was making a gallery wall and concealing the switchplates and alarm control system with frames. The doorbell was the only thing we knew we were going to actually remove (yay- no more waking sleeping babies!). Even with the doorbell chime removed, we still had to safely cover and hide the wiring. Our gallery wall soon became just as much decoration as it was practical.
We bought two wooden canvases and added little hinges to them. They pop right open so we can set the alarm and use the switchplates underneath.
The "happy place" sign covers the spot where the doorbell chime used to be, though you can still see a bit of the cover. I don't think it's too noticable!
